‘THE VIEW’ featuring Roger Manins (New Zealand) – Antikvariatet

The View brings together New Zealand/Swiss pianist Alex Ventling and British drummer Phelan Burgoyne, joined for this special Trondheim concert by New Zealand saxophone legend Roger Manins.

Expect lyrical compositions, spontaneous detours, choral-like piano textures and synth-powered passages — with plenty of room for the music to breathe, stretch and surprise. The boundaries between composition and improvisation get pleasantly blurry, where deep listening is very much at the centre of it all.

Alex and Phelan first met during the European Jazz Masters and have been making music together for over a decade, across a wide range of projects and musical contexts. Their musical friendship has developed into a remarkably sensitive and playful interplay — and with Roger Manins joining the duo, we’re very curious to see where the conversation goes.

Roger Manins is one of New Zealand’s most celebrated jazz saxophonists, bringing his distinctive sound, energy and decades of experience to the trio.

The View samler den norsk-/sveitsiske pianisten Alex Ventling og den britiske trommeslageren Phelan Burgoyne, som til denne spesielle Trondheim-konserten får selskap av New Zealands saksofonlegende Roger Manins.

Forvent lyriske komposisjoner, spontane avstikkere, koraktige pianoteksturer og synthdrevne partier — med god plass til at musikken kan puste, strekke seg og overraske. Grensene mellom komposisjon og improvisasjon blir behagelig uklare, med den dype lyttingen helt sentralt.

Alex og Phelan møttes først under European Jazz Masters og har spilt sammen i over et tiår, på tvers av en rekke prosjekter og musikalske sammenhenger. Det musikalske vennskapet deres har utviklet seg til et bemerkelsesverdig sensitivt og lekent samspill — og med Roger Manins med på laget er vi svært nysgjerrige på hvor denne samtalen vil føre.
