It all started with a passion for rap, for the spoken word set to a rhythmic structure. Then, browsing through the vast CD sections of French retailer FNAC, Asfar Shamsi also discovered pop and house, electronic and classical music. Influenced by various genres, she wrote her first lyrics and produced her first tracks in her bedroom, developing her artistic vision. Following her début EP “Au revoir Février” (2023), French radio stations were the first to pick up on the young artist, but her singles “La crise” and “2006” (2025) also went on to take major streaming platforms by storm. With her soft timbre, beats ranging from ambient pop to delicate trap elements, and French lyrics, Asfar has taken her postmodern rap across Europe, creating a phenomenon that reimagines hip-hop, feels different and is expressed in a myriad of ways. Her long-awaited début album, “cuicui” (2026), finally comes out this year, blending the summery vibes of her first singles, her unmistakable vocals straddling rap and singing, and fresh beat-crafting into an impressive mix of styles. Anyone wanting to experience rap in a whole new way live shouldn’t miss her concert here at the Festival.
